Unwired Business Technologies

Unwired utilises a number of wireless technologies to deliver wireless services depending on the type of customer service being offered. All wireless equipment deployed operates in either private licensed 3.5 GHz spectrum or apparatus licensed spectrum in the 11-38 GHz range.

Unwired can guarantee ongoing reliability and performance as we do not use class (public) licensed technology. Wireless backhaul solutions come in two varieties:

• Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) based and
• packet based.

Microwave radio backhaul initially used TDM based systems (PDH and SDH) to provide reliable delivery of traffic, the same systems used to traditionally deliver data and voice services over fibre optic cable. These TDM systems have as much as 50% overhead to deliver standard data packets, a significant inefficiency.

Latest generation systems are packet based and generally involve transmission of Ethernet frames, reducing the 50% overhead to less than 10%.

All wireless solutions deployed by Unwired are packet based radio systems meaning they operate at maximum efficiency without the overhead required in SDH/PDH based backhaul solutions.
