Redundancy / Backup Internet

Since wireless network services are delivered over the air, connections to customer premises are usually provided by an antenna mounted on the roof of the office building.

All wireline services provided in urban areas are delivered through underground fibre or copper cabling that enters a building basement or ground floor. Most buildings will generally have a single entry point for this underground cabling so if an excavator working in the street was to dig up this cable, or upgrade work within the building was to sever the cable, or there was a generic cable failure then all services delivered over this cable would fail to operate.

A number of important buildings do have multiple underground entries to protect against this situation although not all cabled service providers will make use of these diverse connections.

By delivering services from the roof rather than the basement, wireless services are immune to any accidental damage to underground cables and can thus be used for redundant or backup services in the case cable delivered services fail.

In addition Unwired can also offer carrier diverse backup services, critical in the event of failures in the core network of a business’s preferred service provider.
