Apparatus Licensed

These spectrum bands have been reserved by ACMA for private use. A license is issued to allow the operation of these links with each link identified by the two locations defining the endpoints.

This allows for spectrum management and thus interference free operation as is the case with private licensed spectrum bands. The apparatus licensed spectrum covers the frequency bands operating in 11, 15, 18, 22 and 38 GHz and provides for point-to-point links only.

Many of the large telecommunications companies use apparatus licensed Microwave links to deliver voice and data services to rural areas of Australia as well as to provide diverse paths between major metropolitan centres. They are also used to connect mobile phone towers to provide mobile phone services.
